Ask Dr. Kaiser Question: I was diagnosed with Burkett's Lymphoma stage I on May 2005. I have been on treatment since then. The tumor went away after the first chemo. The problem that I have now is my CD4 count. It is low (210) after the final chemo treatment a month a ago. I really don't want the cancer to come back and I want to know everything I can do besides my traditional chemo treatment. What do you suggest?Dr. Kaiser replies: Since standard chemotherapy is toxic to normal immune cells as well as cancer cells, it is not uncommon for the CD4 cell count to fall during this treatment.The first step to make sure that your CD4 count rebounds is to be on an effective antiviral cocktail that brings your viral load to undetectable.
