Ask Dr. Kaiser

Question:

Two recent DHEAS tests have shown that my levels are well below 100 "units" (those used in your book). I know that I need to start taking 200 mg of DHEA. I heard somewhere that 200 mg twice daily may be appropriate. Is this true? It is hard to find concise dosage guidelines; even my internist is not sure.

Dr. Kaiser replies:

A dosage of 200 mg one time a day is the maximum dosage of DHEA that I have needed to prescribe to my patients. If for some reason, your DHEA-Sulfate test does not increase on this dosage, the source and quality of your supplement would then be suspect.

Best regards,

Dr. Kaiser.
